researchers at Baylor University and EmoryUniversity School of Medicine asked participants attheir sleep lab to spend five minutes before bedtime either writing about allthatthey'd done or allthat they needed to do overthe coming days – crucially, it was the lattergroup who fell asleep faster. "The key here seems to be that participants wrote their to-do listratherthanmentally ruminatedabout their unfinished tasks," the researchers said.
