At the same time， we have a chance to share our perspective． China’s continuing efforts to open and reform its economy is of great interest to us all， and we welcome the opportunity to play our part．

As some of you may know， Pfizer has a long history in China． More than thirty years ago， when China opened its doors to foreign investors， we were one of the first multinational pharmaceutical companies on the ground． Since those early days， we have been privileged to witness firsthand China’s remarkable economic transformation．

Today， Pfizer has nearly 7，000 employees in China， including colleagues at two R&D centers in Shanghai and Wuhan—which serve as critical innovation hubs for Pfizer’s Asia-Pacific operations—and a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Wuxi．

We have introduced more than 60 innovative products that advance public health and extend and improve life for Chinese patients…and invested more than 1.5 billion U.S． Dollars in China to date． We are proud of the active role we have played in China’s health system throughout these many years， and look forward to continuing our work for generations to come．

Pfizer has a very clear purpose： breakthroughs that change patients’ lives． To fulfill our purpose， we must ensure our breakthroughs get to patients that need them—including patients in China． That is why we have supported the Chinese government’s ongoing efforts to open up to the world and drive innovation by moving China’s regulatory and reimbursement systems closer to international best practices．

Of course， there is still more to do． We encourage even deeper reforms and stand ready and willing to support these efforts.During this unprecedented time， it is both a great privilege and a huge responsibility to serve patients around the world． The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us many things about the power of science， the importance of resilient healthcare systems， and how interconnected our world really is． It also has taught us that nothing is impossible if we work together．

That is why I am so excited to be joining you at this year’s China Development Forum． This important event offers us a chance to pause， come together， listen， share， and collaborate—across sectors and across borders． Let’s build a healthy， prosperous new world together． I look forward to seeing you at the 2022 China Development Forum！
